Children of Men

The plot of this speculative future story is simple, the world feels both complex and familiar, only with a dark apocalyptic edge; the most interesting characters lurk at the edge of the story and we are deprived of sustained emotional response for any character except for the one character who offers the story and all of us the most essential quality: hope. The film reminded me in a deep dark way of how hope and fear are bound together in a much too interrelated and oppositional way.
